TCCT TEAMS UP WITH IBM TO BUILD ‘GREEN DATA CENTER’
New green initiative focuses on enhancing energy efficiency, business continuity and scalability

Bangkok, 22 March 2010 – Thailand's leading data center services provider T.C.C. Technology (TCCT) is collaborating with IBM to build a state-of-the-art green data center. The data center will enable TCCT to meet increasing clients demand for data centre services in terms of energy efficiency, business continuity and scalability.

The new TCCT data center is specially engineered by IBM to ensure green compliance with world standards, from project planning to networking and electrical system installation as well as emergency power supply and cooling system setup. It will be the most robust, secure and greenest data center operated by TCCT.

The new data center is designed to support TCCT's growing business through an energy efficient yet dynamic infrastructure with raised floors, heat-resistant wall systems, and humidity controllers, automatic door systems, fire protection systems, environment-friendly and personnel-safe fire extinguishing systems, self-activated monitoring alarm systems and CCTV. Apart from infrastructure design, IBM also provides TCCT with strategic counsel on the green electrical system to be used in the new facility including smart air conditioners, UPSs and electrical distribution equipment.

We have invested more than 200 million baht in the expansion phase of our newest site at the Bangna Data Center (BNDC), which will be operational by the end of March, with strong foundations, stable and high load bearing structures at the data center building."

The new TCCT data center will be a pioneering model for a state-of-the-art IBM Reliability Level 3+ data center, which is IBM’s compliant green data center based on reliability and efficiency. The data center has cloud computing ability, highly resilient and environmental protection advantages of IBM's industry-leading data center design characterized by energy efficiency, green technologies, scalability, and the latest power and cooling technologies.

Last year our data center successfully improved energy efficiency by saving up to 15% of energy consumption, or 522,000 units of electricity reduced per year. This is equivalent to the reduction of 290 tons of CO2 emission annually. Once completed and operated as designed, the new data center will save up to 40% of energy compared to the traditional data centers.

Data centers worldwide consume 2% of the global energy annually. By 2030, data centers worldwide are forecast to consume 12% of the global energy. It is also estimated that energy cost will account for 50% of the total data center operation cost. Moreover, energy used by data centers is likely to be doubled every five-year term because of the fact that each data center requires servers and a massive number of electrical processing components.
