BKNIX Makes Thailand Hub of Seamless Connectivity for ASEAN

February 22, 2015, Bangkok, Thailand – Recent launch of BKNIX (Bangkok Neutral Internet Exchange) using world class technology will create “World of Convergence”; a world that is interconnected on economy, education, society, knowledge, people, young startups, businesses, etc. by Internet. Founded by BKNIX, this new Exchange Point clusters the largest group ISPs both domestic and international within Great Mekong region.

Dr. Gothom Arya, Chairman of THNICF (Thailand National Internet Exchange Foundation) said, “The success has come from collaboration of partners from public and private sectors namely: Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), NSTDA/NECTEC, The Internet Society, The Network Startup Resource Center, The Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ), Alcatel-Lucent, CISCO System, Google, and TCC Technology, etc. BKNIX has created “Thailand’s First Neutral Internet Exchange Point” (IXP) which is comparable to leading IXPs worldwide. Whether small or large ISPs, neutrality will lead to an equal accessibility to a more efficient infrastructure.”

In addition to the newly established Internet Exchange Point which has a pool of leading ISPs, BKNIX brings the most innovative and high performance connectivity. To be comparable to other countries in Europe, North America, or even Asia Pacific, BKNIX has worked and aimed at shifting technology from existing “Layer 3 (L3) Exchange” to “Layer 2” (L2) of which the Internet will be faster and better in terms of redundancy to the public. Therefore this improved Internet with more access channels at lower costs will be a Key Success Factor for users in Thailand and country to transform to Digital Economy.

To build global standard IXP and to create lean international connectivity, BKNIX selected world class data center with its “Satellite Data Centers” networked throughout the region. These data centers patronize a scalable capacity and content. They are fortified by fiber optic “Borderless Connectivity”. This location has proved to be “ASEAN Hub”, attracting a large pool of carriers, ISPs, and content providers worldwide. “As a representative of Thailand’s leading data center services provider, we support BKNIX with our infrastructure to make complete IT ecosystem with Internet Exchange Point that is neutralized and also State-of-the-Art Internet”, Mr. Voradis Vinyaratn, Executive Director and Acting Managing Director of TCC Technology (TCCT) said.

Dr. Chalermpol Charnsripinyo, Member of Digital Economy Policy Maker team at MICT added, “Local Internet Exchange is very necessary. When local parties are connected via IX point, the pool of traffic will be here.”

The latest launched IXP and the new Internet revolution will undoubtedly boost economic growth and enhance value for industry/market and contribute to Thailand’s competitiveness towards AEC 2015.
